Does God Still Heal Today?

Does God still heal people today?

At Overflow Church in Las Vegas, our answer is yes.

We believe Jesus Christ is still alive.

We believe Christians should still pray for sick people.

We believe the Holy Spirit is still working through the Church.

We believe testimonies of healing should point people toward Jesus.

And when someone is facing sickness, we believe the response of the Church should include compassion, faith, prayer, wisdom, and genuine care.

Why Do Christians Pray for Healing?

Healing is woven throughout the earthly ministry of Jesus.

Jesus healed sick people.

He ministered to people who had suffered for years.

He responded to desperate parents.

He touched people others avoided.

He showed compassion toward those who were physically suffering.

After Jesus ascended, the early Church continued praying for healing.

The book of Acts records miracles and healings.

James instructs believers to pray for the sick.

First Corinthians describes gifts of healing among the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

For Spirit-filled Christians, praying for healing is not something invented by modern churches.

It comes from the New Testament.

Jesus and the Woman Who Suffered for 18 Years

Luke 13 tells the story of a woman who had been bent over by an infirmity for eighteen years.

Think about that.

Eighteen years waking up with the same condition.

Eighteen years living within physical limitations.

Eighteen years watching other people live differently.

After enough time, a condition can begin to feel less like something you are experiencing and more like something that defines you.

Then Jesus entered her story.

Jesus saw her and declared:

“Woman, you are freed from your disability.”

During the Set Time for Favor sermon, Pastor Aaron used this passage to illustrate how the Word of God can call people beyond a condition that has defined their lives for years.

Jesus refused to allow eighteen years of history to become the final word over her future.

We Pray Because Jesus Is Still Lord

When we pray for healing, our confidence is not in volume.

It is not in emotionalism.

It is not in a preacher.

It is not in a worship song.

It is not in a particular formula.

Our confidence is in Jesus.

Sometimes Christians testify of healing happening immediately.

Sometimes people describe healing taking place progressively.

Other times people continue walking through difficult medical situations while the Church continues praying with them.

We do not pretend to understand every situation.

But we do not believe unanswered questions require us to stop praying.

We keep looking to Jesus.

A Healing Testimony From Pastor Aaron’s Family

During the Set Time for Favor message, Pastor Aaron shared about a frightening experience involving his son Max when he was very young.

Max was having severe difficulty breathing.

While the family was rushing him to receive emergency medical care, his condition became frightening enough that he became unresponsive.

The family began praying.

Pastor Aaron called his father-in-law, who joined them in prayer from another city.

By the time they reached the emergency room, Max was responsive.

Pastor Aaron testified that his son never experienced another episode like that afterward.

The Pino family did not avoid medical care.

They sought medical attention and they prayed.

Those things do not have to be enemies.

A Recent Testimony From Overflow Church

Pastor Aaron also shared another testimony during the message.

A woman visited an Overflow Church service after receiving a concerning medical report involving tumors in her breast and undergoing further evaluation.

During the service, she received prayer.

Later that week, Pastor Aaron was told that following her medical follow-up, the tumors being investigated could no longer be found.

We celebrate testimonies like this because they encourage people to look toward Jesus.

A testimony is not a promise that every person will experience the exact same medical outcome.

It is a reason to give God glory and keep praying.

What If I Have Prayed and I Am Still Sick?

This is where the Church must respond with compassion.

There are faithful Christians who have prayed and are still waiting.

There are people who deeply love Jesus and continue walking through sickness.

We should never shame someone because healing has not happened yet.

We should never automatically assume sickness means someone lacks faith.

Our responsibility is to love people.

Pray with them.

Stand with them.

Encourage them.

Help them.

And continue trusting God.

Faith and Medical Care Are Not Enemies

Believing God for healing does not require someone to ignore doctors, medication, testing, treatment, or responsible medical advice.

Luke himself was a physician.

Medical wisdom and prayer do not have to compete.

If you are facing a medical concern, seek appropriate professional care.

And while you are doing that, we will still pray.

Why?

Because doctors are not threatened by prayer, and prayer is not threatened by doctors.

Our confidence remains in God.
