5 Benefits of the Blood of Jesus: Protection, Deliverance, Healing, Peace, Eternal Life

Turn with me to Colossians 1:12–20.

This message was preached on Communion Sunday at Overflow Church, and I want to talk to you about something eternal, something living, and something that still has power right now: the blood of Jesus Christ.

The blood of Jesus is not symbolic in the way many people treat it. Scripture teaches us that life is in the blood, and that means the blood of Jesus carries the life of God. If you will reach out by faith and grab hold of what the blood provides, you do not have to leave the same way you came in.

Our Foundational Scripture: Colossians 1:12–20

Paul writes:

  • The Father has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light

  • He has delivered us from the power of darkness and conveyed us into the kingdom of the Son of His love

  • In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins

  • Jesus is the image of the invisible God

  • All things were created through Him and for Him

  • He is the head of the body, the church

  • Through the blood of His cross, He made peace and reconciled all things to Himself

That is not small. That is not light. That is not theory.

That is the gospel, and it is loaded with power.

Why Five Benefits

There are many benefits to the blood of Jesus, but I’m focusing on five. And I believe the Lord highlighted five for a reason.

In Scripture, five points to grace.

Grace is the ability of God to accomplish what God wants to accomplish in your life. It’s God’s power working in you to do what you could never do by yourself.

So as you read this, understand this: there is fresh grace available to you today through the blood of Jesus Christ.

Benefit 1: The Blood Brings Protection

Scripture calls Jesus our Passover Lamb.

In Exodus 12, God’s people were instructed to apply the blood of a spotless lamb to the doorposts. When the destroyer passed through the land, the Lord said when He sees the blood, He will not allow the destroyer to enter that home.

That was not just history. That was prophetic.

Jesus is our Passover Lamb, and His blood still protects.

And not only does it protect you, it protects your household.

If you are tired of living exposed, tired of living under constant attack, tired of feeling like it always pours when it rains, there is a place you can live: under the blood.

The destroyer does not get free reign when the blood is applied.

Benefit 2: The Blood Brings Authority and Deliverance

Revelation 12 tells us something powerful.

The accuser of the brethren has been cast down, and believers overcome him by two things:

  • The blood of the Lamb

  • The word of their testimony

This is not passive Christianity. This is spiritual authority.

You overcome Satan when you testify personally to what the Word says and what the blood does.

The blood of Jesus breaks addictions.
The blood breaks bondages.
The blood reverses the work of the enemy.

Deliverance is not you trying harder. Deliverance is the blood of Jesus enforcing what Jesus already purchased.

Benefit 3: The Blood Brings Healing

Isaiah 53:5 says, “By His stripes we are healed.”

The same blood that protects you is the same blood that heals you.

It does not matter what the report says. It does not matter what the doctor said. It does not matter what your family has accepted as final. The blood of Jesus speaks a better word.

Healing is not a side issue. When God heals you, it is not just so you can be comfortable. It’s because He still has assignment on your life. He still has purpose on your days. He still has fruit for you to bear.

I’ve seen it with my own eyes. I’ve watched God turn things around when the medical report said otherwise. That is what the blood does.

And if you have prayed before and nothing happened yet, hear me: your experience does not change the Word. The Word changes your experience.

Today can be your day.

Benefit 4: The Blood Brings Peace of Mind

In John 19, the soldiers twisted a crown of thorns and put it on Jesus’ head.

They thought they were mocking Him. They did not realize they were revealing Him.

Isaiah 9:6 says He is the Prince of Peace.

When that crown was pressed into His head, Jesus bled from His head, and I believe there is something prophetic in that: His blood brings peace to your mind.

The blood of Jesus cleanses your conscience.
It doesn’t just cleanse sin, it cleanses the memory of sin.

There are people who need peace in the middle of a storm, and there are people who need peace because they still believe God is mad at them.

When you come under the blood, you are not only forgiven, you are clean. Not only covered, but blotted out. Not only pardoned, but restored.

That is peace.

Benefit 5: The Blood Brings Eternal Life

Hebrews 9 teaches that the blood of bulls and goats could only cover sin for a season, but Jesus entered the Most Holy Place with His own blood and obtained eternal redemption.

Religion says, try harder. Be better. Work your way up to God.

But the truth is simple: you cannot save yourself.

That is why Jesus came.

He lived sinless.
He shed real blood.
He died.
He was buried.
He rose again.

And the Word says, all who call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. If you believe in your heart God raised Jesus from the dead and confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, you shall be saved.

Eternal life is not earned. Eternal life is received.

A Simple Response

If you are reading this and you know you are not right with God, you do not have to stay in distance. You can come under the blood today.

Pray this from your heart:

Heavenly Father,
I come before You today needing salvation.
Wash me, cleanse me, make me brand new.
I believe in my heart that You raised Jesus from the dead.
I confess my sin to You, and I declare that Jesus is Lord of my life.
I turn from sin, and I turn to Christ.
Thank You that I am saved by the blood of Jesus.
In Jesus name, amen.

If you prayed that, let us know. We want to celebrate you and help you take your next steps.

Closing

The blood has not lost its power.
The blood still works today.
And the benefits of the blood are not distant. They are available now.

Protection.
Authority and deliverance.
Healing.
Peace of mind.
Eternal life.

Jesus paid for all of it.
